JH,

I am an engineer dealing network design, so am not familiar with all
of the products in common, but heres a shot at it:

Category Cisco Product Ascend Product

Core Router 12000 or 75xx GRF 400/1600
Dialup - Core AccessPath 5300 Max TNT
Dialup - Access 1600 or 7xx Pipeline
WAN Switch Stratacom series Cascade Series

On marketing paper the GRF moves at close to the 12000, but their own
tests show it running similar to a 7500 (with the 7500 in a suboptimal
config :-). The TNT has higher dial density - but Ascend has had
delivery and support issues.

I have no good way of evaluating the frame switches - I have used
both but am not an expert on frame/atm wan switches.

Their real issue on the core side is software maturity - we have a
lot of experience with the Internet and BGP built into the IOS, they
are new at it.
