I’ve got pretty good water. Not overly soft, but not “hard” at all.

Grew up in Michigan with very hard water. It had a lot of minerals and iron in it.

One thing that extends the life of tanked hot water heaters is changing out the sacrificial anode every 5 years. Once the anode is eaten away the rest of the tank follows quickly.
