Kessler reduces EPS Estimates

Kessler notes that the Chicago Sun Times reported a $9.2 million contract was awarded by Cook County to NEC to install new fingerprinting and mugshot systems. Kessler claims that this contract was supposed to have been awarded and shipped in 2Q97, therefore he is lowering his 2Q97 estimate from 5 cents to 2 cents.

Kessler was so upset by this slippage that he is assuming that all future contracts will slip or that IDX will not entirely make up the earnings shortfall. Kessler lowered his FY98 EPS estimate from 24 cents to 18 cents and FY99 from 40 cents to 33 cents. The street mean estimates are now 20 cents and 33 cents for the next two years.

Despite reducing his estimates, Kessler believes that calendar 1998 could be the year that biometrics breaks into ATM, credit card and other commercial applications.
