Worswick: thanks. I like that comparison. Hope those US congressmen understand this.
Best luck.

Brainpower and education are the new gold. If people don't like where they are they
take their brainpower elsewhere. And people, like water, run into channels of least
resistance...witness the intellectual capital America has gained from places as diverse
as Bangla Desh and England.

Right on Worswick! I think America has struck gold with its open system. Now, I just wish that the immigration policy would be much more open so that Japanese people can move freely to America. I think a huge talent drain will force Japan down the reforming road faster than anything else.

Worswick,

-you wrote-
"At that StratFor's commandments call for South America to eclipse Asia. My goodness. Maybe all the heat in Austin during the summer becausetheheatvaporseffect these guys. Do you really think the Koreans are going to be eclipsed by the Brazilians and the Mexicans? Or, the Japanese by the people of Argentina and Colombia?"

I think that you may be putting an incorrect spin on what Stratfor was saying in this article:

stratfor.com

My take on their prediction regarding Latin American is that it will supercede Asia as the world's fastest growing region. They make no claim IMO, that the GNP per capita, for example, in any one latin american country will exceed that of say Japan. Here is an excerpt that best describes their outlook:

"It is becoming apparent to us that Latin America is emerging as the new, hot region. We believe that Latin American shows every promise of replacing Asia as the world's developmental hotbed. After the inevitable slowdown of the international economy as a result of the Asian meltdown, we are becoming convinced that Latin America will enjoy spectacular growth rates similar to those of Asia into the first decade of the 21st Century. Moreover, we think that Latin America will avoid at least some of the Asian defects. For example we think that, unlike Asia, Latin America will follow a more balanced pattern in which domestic consumption will rise along with exports, allowing for a sounder growth pattern. We are of course concerned with the Latin American banking system. The pattern of cronyism and lack of transparency is present in Latin America, but at nowhere near the level that was present in Asia."

My 2› on their 2›....
