Probably easier to turn off the water at the street, but one downside would be if you want to run automatic sprinklers when you are away.

If I'm going to be away from home over night, or longer, I turn off the main valve coming into the house. You only have to experience water damage once to appreciate how devastating even a tiny leak, left unattended for several hours, let alone days, can be to recover from.

Turn off the water!!!
