I listened to the conference call and the major theme seemed to be that although things are lousy and will stay so for the next 1-3 quarters, the industry is taking the necessary steps to fix the (over supply) situation. They said next qtr will be about the same as this one as far as earnings go. Also heard - and correct me if I'm wrong since I didn't remember everything I heard - that they expect DLT to grow at about 40% until some sort of new competition comes out which shouldn't happen for a couple years. They basically said DLT was responsible for all earnings this qtr and that desktop drive shipment hit record numbers, but still lost money.

Anyone else that listened out there? My take is that if you hold on until next year you'll be ok, but don't expect too much this year unless QNTM was being overly conservative in their assesment today.

Hey Sam

Yes, I'm still around. I still own some Quantum, but currenely I am trying to figure out how I missed such a mammoth shorting oppurtunity in the drive stocks. The writing was very plain on the wall, and currently I am studying what happened so I won't make the same mistakes again.

As for the future, the industry will of course recover, and Quantum will once again have huge gains. The obvious questions are when and for how long. As this is my first "round trip" with the disk drives, I have little with which to compare the timing of the recovery.

Related to Summer 96, where do we stand in the turnaround ( in your opinion), and was this last upswing shorter than in the past?

If you care, I have done some detailed work on a company called CHS Electronics, and I feel that they are currently very misunderstood. It is curently my biggest holding. Any questions / comments are very welcome.

Continued Best
