And why is the MAC version only 5 megs but the windows is 40 megs?>

Why are you asking silly questions? IE for Mac and IE for Windows are two different products. That is why there is such a difference in heft? The DLL's are part of the Windows OS, where the Mac incarnation does not have such attributes. If you were a true tech head you would know this. I am a lay person and this is painfully obvious.

It is "painfully" obvious to us all. All this dumb geek knows is that software originates has text and gets compiled. The text does something. Does the Window's version do 8 times the "something" as the Mac version? Does the Windows text code (or any Windows APPLICATION) compiled yield a footprint 8 TIMES the size as the Mac version?

I don't know these answers, since I'm still kicking and screaming from the Unix world.

Prove it! I run Windows NT 4.0 sp3 with IIS 4.0, tell me how and why it is not a real OS.

I didn't say the great NT was not a real OS. Why it is the OS for the next century. A program that manages pixels on your screen has nothing to do with the hardware functions. Luckily, MS doesn't have a lock on CRT standards. Backward compatibility tells me you are still running DOS. And what is that 640K being booted and all those DOS terds?

Reggie's running DOS, Nanna, Nanna, Nanna.

Whoa, Reg. I'm a true tech head, and it's not obvious at all to me. What MSFT is saying is that in order to remove any application that uses a shared library, the library must be removed. This is patently silly, absurd, and could be interpreted as a downright lie.

Yes it is. You now have a new product that does things that no other product does.

Like what?

Dear Reg:

Mac IE is slower than NSCP Comm. except for java and then it is about 2X as fast. It's mail thing OE is not as good as the NSCP mail which is light years ahead which means MSFT will catch up in less than a year if they want to indulge the Mac folks. It is only 5 meg if you just get the browser but is much larger if you get the whole package.
That is also the case over at NSCP. The biggest plus for MSFT is the responsiveness of the support people who have been very good, and prompt as well, in addressing problems regarding installation and bugs. There is no support at NSCP and there will be less since they are laying folks off because they don't know how to manage their assets i.e. (turn a profit). Now if these guys really object to MSFT why don't they buy a Mac and run NSCP browsers on same. All the whining w/o the concomitant action is just so much hot air. All sail and no ballast. Like the CIO's mentioned somewhere on this thread they want MSFT to imbed the browser in the OS but reserve the right to complain about the fact that they are being given what they want.

I don't care if MSFT never invented a thing they know how to implement and sell. The Mac has been a better product all along but MSFT had the leadership and therein lies the difference. What these guys don't understand is that Gates is not arrogant- just the fact that he has adopted so many other companies products is evidence in and of itself.
Actually HTML is an interpreted high level code and the browser is the interpreter. This is not so amazing. Basic was an interpreted language. C is an offshoot of the unix system. What did all these have in common? In the beginning they were all free, establishing themselves as the defacto building elements of computer technology. The trick is to convert what is free into a commercial package a task which MSFT has been singularly brilliant at achieving.

Do we begrudge one farmer his success because he uses the nearly free elements to operate a prosperous farm just because the guy down the road can't. These guys who whine against MSFT on this thread would have lined up behind Lenin and Stalin in a heartbeat.

So long

JF Dowd

P.S.
Why do you trouble yourself?"..... none are so deaf as those who have ears but will not hear". Is there a forum where one can get some real investor type info on MSFT. This has become the Beavis and Butthead show over here. This is all giga whining on this channel.
