I would think offstream pumped/hydro would be a good idea coupled to renewable energy. Build two reservoirs one higher elevation the other lower, fill in winter, and then on a daily basis pump from the lower one to the upper during the day (solar) or when windy (wind power) and go the other way with hydro when energy is needed. Both water storage and a huge battery...
