It is scary and sobering. We have hospitals that create numbers they say 'nobody pays', how ludicrous is that? We have 'balance billing' where you think your procedure will be performed by doctors in your network, and then you find out they used doctors out of your network, and by the way, pay up! If you look at trends in the healthcare industry, it's all about consolidation, so one group has as much negotiating power against the other as possible, and bottom line, to extract as much cash from you as possible. In my area I see hospitals banding together into groups, same with physicians, and nationally you can see the trends, like CVS buying Aetna.
