Jim,

<<They will even expect a cheaper computer next time.>>

I recently read an article in a non-tech magazine about Dragon Dictate. Sounded good (no pun intended). I'm going to give it a try on my P233 system. Doubt that it will run on that funky little Compaq Cyrix loss leader. Do you really think that new power hungry apps aren't being continually developed that take advantage of top end system capabilities? It's not a zero sum game. The whole pie will continue to grow, top to bottom.

Regards, JB

The idea that new buyers that buy the sub-zero computers will buy a more expensive computer later is a load of baloney, IMHO. They will even expect a cheaper computer next time.

Good point. Probably depends on whether or not they fall in love with the technology. After all, PC envy could play a role. When things like DVD and sweet graphics (e.g. video games) take processing power, there will be plenty of people who will be willing to pay more if they can afford to...

Jim: RE: New low-end buyers

Ok. I guess I'm reading something into this that others aren't?

Most (nearly all?) of those sub-zero computer buyers will hook up to the Internet and SOMEBODY will need to supply the services to support all these new users.

It's those guys that will be buying the big hardware. Please tell me if I am getting this wrong. It means a lot more than just the individual upgrades. No?
