People are (sort of) left leaning on goodies- if they get them- but many people aren't hot about people getting them who aren't Just Like Them (like minorities, for example, when white people are answering...because, you know, the minorities will "take advantage"- even though white benefit queens don't) So know- I don't smoke the ganja about the US being liberal. The US population is greedy for benefits but doesn't want to pay the taxes necessary to pay for them. The US population is so un-liberal, it would elect a fascist like Trump- and though the reaction to Trump is strong, there's still plenty of far right assholes out there, as well as more centrist racists, who would support the GOP. Sorry. I don't buy what you're selling on this. I know the NY Times agrees with you- but they've been wrong before...
