I use Dreyfus Brokerage Services, formerly Pacific Brokerage Services, at www.tradepbs.com. They have the lowest commisions by far, $1.75 per contract, $15 minimum. Their web site is fast, no graphics, but not encrypted (secure), although the logon is secure. The lack of encryption is an issue and hopefully they will do something about it. Also, unlike Datek (no options), your balances are not updated throughout the day, so you have to figure out yourself how much money you have. They also give you real time quotes only before submitting an order. The options selection screens are very nice.

Discover Brokerage (I still call them Lombard) will let you do that. Here is their demo page address:

discoverbrokerage.com

Fidelity's WebExpress does, too:

personal32.fidelity.com:80/trade/index.html

but Discover's site is faster and the structure of their site is much more logical and direct. You can, for example, get a quote and then move directly to the order screen. With Fidelity you have to back out of the quote page to your portfolio and then call up an order screen.

Dale-Discover (formerly Lombard will let you do anything and is pretty good about it. Their option commissions are quite competitive, but they are getting undercut by others for electronic limit orders (currently $20).

Dale,

For options trading, I've been happy with Ameritrade. They have a really good web site and the commissions are low.

>>>TO ALL: I need suggestions for an on-line broker which will let me buy puts and calls.<<<

Waterhouse will, but they're options commission is too expensive, IMO (31.50+1.75 per contract). Webstreet webstreetsecurities.com seems to be a good online broker (I just signed up last month), and has 14.75 + 1.75 per contract commissions for options, but I didn't sign up for options trading because I quit trading options. I just got tired of the games the specialists play, and feel a straight equity position has better risk/reward.
