The volume for Newbridge on the TSE in the past few weeks is unbelievable. I still can't understand why the sellers haven't dryed up by now without any new news. With these large volumes, one would think that the mutual funds are doing something. Does anybody know if any mutual companies are buying or selling?

If you don't mind, I'd prefer to take this off-line. My e-mail is freely available (just click on the From link). But just a quick question: where do you get your information from? I checked the on-line copy of the 97 Financial Report and I can't find any such numbers in the consolidated report (http://www.newbridge.com/financial/annual97/consolidated_a.html). And, frankly, 3.2 million is a small sum when you think that NN has offices all over the world. Besides, every time the stock goes up a dime he makes more than that from his 24%.

As for speculation, isn't that what it's all about? A company's true worth is rarely equal to its market capitalization. If it wasn't for speculation, the only return you cwould get would be the bank's rate of interest.

Larry, as long as fair market prices are paid for leases and other properties and its all negotiated "at arms length" and disclosed to investors what difference does it make who owns the facilities?

There is considerable risk and expense in buying property and constructing large office/manufacturing buildings on them. Just look to the Canary Wharf project in London, England to see how much money can be lost. A lot of money must have been invested in building the Newbridge campus and one should expect a reasonable return on investment. There is a lot of square footage in some of those buildings...
