Dear flickerful , one only look at the automobile industry ................
and carry the story thru to a good amount of American industry.
We thought we were impregnable . Then better & at the time
cheaper cars starting showing up , mostly from Asia. There are
those still in domestic industry who think they are forever & the
world better not try to intefere. Well , they do & the 'good ol boys'
ride their companies down the economic dowspout re. IBMS ,
Sunbeams of the recent past. Main frames & can openers are
just not enough in todays freight train of technology and these
two mentioned companies were lucky enough to get a grip on it
just before the bell rang. The American economic thinking of today
has undergone a total revamping. It is about change and it will be
for quite awhile. I own ZE hoping it can do a turnaround with its
talent , potential , history & new younger leadership. This could be
a book going back to the end of WW2 and the Marshall Plan but
thats my thinging in a short answer.
