I live in a really nice part of the Silicon Valley, Los Altos. So any crowding around homes on large lots (for CA) is usually multiple generations sharing a single home and parking on the street but most park in their driveways or 2-car garages with maybe one car on average on the street, often if they rent out a room or have kids and/or parents of driving age.

But drive to the once cheap places to live just a mile away and you can't park for all the cars and the fools want to build "low cost" and "affordable" housing with not enough parking for the residents to keep it cheap... and we fight it as you know they will get their 10,000 steps by parking in the neighborhoods and walking to their cars or shuttling with a spouse with the on site parking space.

I think the only subject understand less than math with compounding interest and how that blows up pension liability is economics and the simple supply and demand equation. To me, it was always obvious and I could ace the Econ 101 class final exam at UC Berkeley WITHOUT TAKING THE CLASS while most thought it was hard. It is frustrating that idiots are in charge and blame NIMBY for the obvious issue of letting too many illegals in to compete for low cost housing then there will be an shortage of affordable housing for those who play by the rules but are not in high paying jobs.

Every two weeks I pay my housekeepers (sisters) $90 to for about 65 minutes of work... so in excess of $40 per hour. A fair wage given they have to drive and are legal citizens now from Mexico under Reagan's amnesty program. They are AGAINST illegal immigrants NOW because they under cut their prices... I had one guy offer to clean my house but you'd get different crew you don't know or trust making slave wages as the guy would charge me $15 or $20 per hour and at the time pay $8 or so min wages. They bid 2 hrs to do the job and have unmotivated workers doing the work. I believe you get what you pay for but I know many want the cheap labor.
