Walter, I think this should stay on-line. " who is minding the store " "while Matthews pads his pocket" I think is one side of the argument.
I will avoid philosophizing, until I state that Microsoft's Bill Gates I think also made a poor investment choice once I forget which; I htink something to dowith multimedia, or even the Microsoft Network for which MSFT lost moneys because they didn't bill customers
properly. So nobody's perfect, what else is new?
On the philosophy side, I say let Bill and Matthewa make profits. If their profits will benefit 20000 employees at MSFT anf 8000 at NN
I say let them do it!!! HOW MANY JOBS HAS OTTAWA DEVELOPED RECENTLY? Or Canada for that mater? What I read is that:
-the Canadian taxpayer if getting the SHAFT, BIG and, ALL THE TIME:
-they are taxed to their gills to fund an EXCELLENT, first class
educational system from Grade school to University.
-then when these kids come out they face A GIANT, inefficient tax
system and they SKIP town to the USA which thus GETS ALL the
benefits ( highly skilled people ) and none of the disadvantages
( paying for it ).
It is high time we let the likes of Matthews, Gates, Grove decide how best to create/expand businesses and create jobs, and send the Ottawa
Goverment bureaucracy back to retraining school to acquire new, usefull, EMPLOYABLE, MONEY GENERATING JOBS, IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR.

I will now cool down, and look for comments from all.

TA

A key point that I have not made is that the bulk of Mr. Matthews compensation is not performanced-based. That is my main objection to all of this. Whether earnings and the stock price go up or go down, Mr. Matthews' compensation from the leases is not impacted. Also, as his new construction projects commence, his management fees will rise. I'm not questioning the market prices for the leases. I'm certain that all of that is reasonable. Again, I am concerned that most of his compensation has no relationship to Newbridge's operating performance. He is not being held accountable for operating performance.

I am not taking this issue off-line, but I am done-for the time being.
