Cisco, I like your idea better than mine. It solves the problem directly. I have a hunch that both concepts would add value to the threads. The To The Poster / From The Poster idea might have some other benefit. The problem is I don't know what it would be! Maybe it would provide another method for navigating through the threads and stumbling on new ideas.

I have strayed to other boards from time to time but have not found anything close to SI. They are either empty, have a poor format, slow or they crash or lock up my computer! I don't like the ones that look like outlines. The thread concept is the best. I don't like the concept of completely skipping posts except on very active threads.

Ok, I put it in place next the "Previous | Next | Respond" at the bottom of each message (so that it doesn't distract the reader and confuse newbies as much). Thanks for the suggestion!

Is the next natural step is to allow people to post "To All" as Ben suggested here?

The advantage of doing so is that the relevancy of "replies to this message" is improved. Is there a negative? The only one we worry about is that it might decrease the sense of community/flow on a thread.
