Brad,

Interesting! If you had a post to All option, would anybody receive an unread message notice? I would assume not. Would it still show up in subjectmarks as a new message? If so, I think it would be a good idea. If not, I wouldn't like it.

Going one step farther, you could put a post to none option instead of a post to all option on the test threads. When a person goes to one of those threads for the first time, I think some don't post because they really don't want to post to anyone.

I like the post to all concept. I don't see a downside. It would especially help the newbies as they may not know how to jump into a thread. It could also be used to start a new idea in lieu of posting to oneself. (also in lieu of the post to none idea)

I don't see post to all impacting the flow of the thread. I think it would help the flow of the thread. Sometimes a post seems to come from nowhere as posters do not have this option.

I believe the flow of the thread is what helps make SI work. The view responses to this post will effect the flow. You have done well by forcing the reader back to the thread to minimize this effect.

The view responses has added a new dimension to reading. It now takes me longer to get through a thread!!

The "View Replies" is a very nice feature, Brad. Any chance of getting it to preserve the Normal/Fixed font characteristics of displayed replies?

Refer to for an example (e.g. tables, hard CRs, etc.):

David

Brad -
What I would like to see is a way of accessing ALL of a persons posts instead of just the most recent ones. Any possible joy here?

Al

Brad on the View replies: Is it possible to get it to show the replies as read on the main thread once I've hit the view replies button.

I bounce around alot from thread to thread. When I first sign on SI, I do so by going to the message manager and reading those posts to me, then I go to the threads and read other posts. I find myself clicking on posts I've already read in the view replies area.

Or maybe someone could suggest a good memory enhancement product for me. <GG>

Brad, thanks for providing a great place to share improvement ideas!

I too am forgetful and would love to see the time put at the top of the SI Member Home Page (where I live my life these days) because I forget how long it has been since I've done a refresh of the page.

Man, I LOVE this service!

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mitch

My 2c worth on Post-To-All. To my mind, a more natural (and
less intrusive) designation would be "To Anyone" rather than
"To All".

You could make a case for both message types: "To All" for
no-kidding broadcasts; "To Anyone" for open questions. This
is probably more complicated than it needs to be, though.

As a final 1/2c, I see a lot of messages which begin
"Thread, ..." (I've posted them myself). Perhaps the
neutral designation might be to post "To Thread"?

Brad,
Sometimes while catching up on messages I just reload my Message Manager instead of backtracking to it. Sometimes I get annoyed waiting for the full MM to download. In doing this I am downloading extra data when all I want is the unread threads or people I follow.

I liked the having "New" aka unread messages or people float to the top. I wondered if you might want to include a switch so one would only see the unread messages or unread posters they have bookmarked. The switch in the other position should allow you to see all your bookmarks, read or unread.

Thanks for considering this.

squetch

Brad,

About a year ago, there was a special section on SI where people picked their "favorite stock for 1997" and gave their reasoning. Whatever happened to that? That was here, wasn't it?

Humbly report, Brad, I wish to once again humbly suggest you create a place on SI that lists all of the guidelines regarding such matters as what is not permitted here on SI, such as Java scripts and decoy e-mail addresses that thwart e-mail-address-gathering-spam-robots in member profiles (both of which many SI members use).

Maybe a link right next to the "Terms Of Use"?

Thanks in advance, as always,

Svejk
