John:

Thanks for your response. I am very pleased with computer.

Price was a definite factor & I had been reading about the testing in past few months. I have a HWP 7270 Pentium 166 less than 1-1/2 years old. This CPQ 4540 is profiled in Feb. 1998 HOME PC magazine.

I think INTC is a tremendous stock & excellent company also. They are a driving force in technology and helping change our world with their processors. But, this new pricing range is bringing in consumers who had previously shied away from the higher priced computers. I have not seen crowds of customers in COMP USA since 1994. They were lined up 4-5 deep waiting for sales associates. For disk drive, memory manufacturers, accessories (i.e. ESST, CRUS, SIII), we need more consumers. Eventually they will become part of the upgrade cycle, and, all competitive computer related stocks should benefit. If we buy technology stocks, we have to want positive earnings.

Not everyone was buying the lower priced. I am sure there were many upgrading to the Pentium 233 MMX. There was a pricing differential of approximately $400. to $500. (I also have a Compaq 486DX-66 which used an AMD chip - still works just fine.)
