This may be a really stupid question!! Wouldn't sucking on nicotine patches be like chewing tobacco? Couldn't it cause mouth cancer?
(when I was little, a neighbor who owned the cottage next to ours lost his jaw to cancer and it terrified me-he was really scary looking)

Family Practice and a bit of emergency and only part time at the moment. I used to do mainly obstetrics but it didn't fit family life. I know what you mean about the quiting experience it took me several tries too. I almost started again when my mother had a heart attack until I realized how innane this would be having just found out that I had a strong family history of heart disease. I have recently read that there is felt to be antidepressive properties in nicotine so they are starting to use antidepressants as an aid. Not sure how helpful they are. Interestingly exercize has been found to increase the bodies serotonin the same neurotransmitter that the new antidepressants increase. So one could skip the antidepressants and the nicotine gum and just exercize like crazy. janet
