Spots,

You ask some tough questions but I will share what I know and what I think. Seagate was toying with OEM supply of MR heads and even got qualified on one of Maxtor's earlier programs. But they never supplied any appreciable quantities. They presently are supplying in-house only as far as I know. IBM has been an on-again, off-again OEM supplier so many times its anybody's guess as to how serious they are. I do not take them too seriously and I do not believe the major dd cos. do either. Heads and media are where the rubber meet the road in this business IMHO. So most prefer to seal strong relationships with independents. Those that seem to be doing well (within the context of this market) are Read-Rite, TDK/SAE, and Yamaha. Of those three I think TDK is top of the heap at the moment in terms of quality and yield but that is based on heresay.
Best,
Stitch
