I suspect gold's appeal at the moment is dependent on what currency you are using. If I am in Venezuela, gold looks pretty attractive compared to the local currency.

Here in the U.S. the Fed today signaled that President Trump's desires matter. Despite a strong economy and a ballooning deficit, the Fed is choosing to continue to inflate the current U.S. stock market bubble with easy money. That may make short term progress in the price of gold in dollars difficult.

In addition, the Venezuelan government is likely to have to sell a lot of gold to stay afloat. Don't know if that will matter or not.

Of course, there is always the possibility that the current U.S. administration will execute some harebrained policy that will send gold much higher unless Powell takes interest rates deeply negative.

I shall consult my Ouija Board.
