Russia's military advantage is not the sophistication of their weapons, but the size and emptiness of their country. Not much different from Napoleon's time or Hitler's. It is mostly a failed state with little worth destroying. The U.S. military industrial complex need to play up the Russian threat in order to keep the golden goose laying the eggs for the war machine contractors.
