America wasn't very popular in Europe in the 70's... or before or after.
America is only popular in Europe when the German boot is on their throat.

The famous Solzhenitsyn's letter to Soviet leaders, not long before they kicked him out of the country. I think it's an abbreviated version - so far the best I could find. Quite interesting. Very good criticism of Marxism and it's "predictions". Very anti-progress and anti technology. Offers ideas how to reform the Soviet regime into something better. Seems to think that Russia may be better off with an authoritarian future - as long as its enlightened by Orthodox Christianity. Not a big admirer of the West.

Unpopular with the hyper-vocal "useful ideologue" minority, certainly.
