My $.02: "Our clinging" is singular (or perhaps a collective, which gets the singular treatment).

I believe that the written word will be with us for a long time. It is much faster to absorb information off a page than to listen to a stream of words. That's why the plot of a two-hour movie seems so much more spare than the two-hundred-page book on which it is modeled.
Literacy will continue to require mastery of spelling and style.

Spellcheckers are useless to folks like myself who depend on specialized terminology.
