<Tests have shown that the Darwin Ultra 5, Sun's lowest-end product,
is 31% faster w/cpu processing than the high end Compaq, or HP
PC's running Pentium 266 mhz processors and TWICE as fast in the I/O
slots.>

You forget the fact that you can get a 300 Mhz Pentium II for $3,000.

cheryl,

What a refreshing post. Good for SUNW. I really mean that. Take on Wintel with a fine product at a competitive price. I hope they promote the hell out of the Darwin lineup and if it kicks NT's ass, then too bad for Bill. How much more wholesome it is to see some hardball competion instead of the incessant mewling and whining to the DOJ that's been so much in vogue lately.

Regards, JB

RE: "$2995 buys you 270mhz ultra sparc processor, 64 MB main memory, 4.3GB hard disk drive, 100mbps ethernet port, 64-bit address and data buses, VLSI technology with 4 PCI slots (PC compatible cards are a-ok), and Solaris with wabi to run Windows applications(like Microsoft Office)".

What are the profit margins expected to be on these devices?
