Tell me, please, just how the rest of us are supposed to differentiate bullshit from untrue claims from mistakes from lies?

Quite simple Grasshopper. One must have faith.

And access to a body of people who specialize in translating Trumpese...

A statement can be true or false and still be bullshit.

One of the first liver transplants, done by Starzel before he went to Pittsburgh, was done on a salesman that called on my dad's business. We called him “Spence” and my friend and I always laughed at him. We were kids, maybe 8th and 9th grade, and both worked summers for my dad.

Spence would come in and out on a show like Lenny Bruce. Nasty, bullshit, but entertaining for us. Of course my dad never heard any of it.

But Spence was a good man. I got plenty of chances to hear the riveting story of his liver transplant, long before anti rejection drugs. He had to survive three days post surgery without anesthesia. He was among the first to live five years with a transplant. But that was it. He had two kids our age and I’m sure he wasn't half the pervert around them. But he was a harmless pervert.

Anyway, he was a bullshitter. Joking, carrying on, acting silly. But he did his job which was to make the sales and get the orders in right. Every week he had a story. I would say his were never true. But I suppose some could have been. That’s why they are entertaining.

I’m sure you have encountered someone like this at some point. I can’t quite imagine any adult has managed to avoid such people for a lifetime.

I asked my wife if I referred to my friend Bill as a bullshitter, does she know what i mean. She grinned and said, “Sure. He goes on and on with his stories, then says, 'You know what I mean?'” He exaggerates, talks loudly, in his case a farm boy, as far left as you can get, but a great guy. Wouldn’t hurt a flea. But sometimes, his stories get bigger than life, probably unintentionally. Bullshitter.

It is not an unusual term. My friend is this definition. I think this is close to Trump as well. Tells the story, freely exaggerates for harmless, entertainment purposes, and never repeats the same story in the same way. But if called to testify, he can tell it like it happened.

We got pulled over by the cops. I was driving and sober and the other three were drunk. When the cops came to the door, Bill starts telling them how his great granddaddy is a judge in DeWitt county and they can call him if they need to. It was hilarious to us but the cops weren’t impressed. I think the judge may have been dead. They wanted to look in the trunk which contained no contraband so I let them. But they insisted on taking us to my parent's house where they dumped us out. Just college boy bullshit.

I don’t think we should be so uptight about it. Although I was put off by Trump's bullshit at first, it doesn’t bother me. Bill thinks Trump is a bullshitter.

The murder rate was an obvious blunder and it would have been a good question to ask his press secretary instead of the childish nonsense they used to ask.

On the Inauguration I want to know why the news media used pictures of Trump's from two hours before it began? I sure to Trump it looked different. But why do you think you should be excited about this? It is essentiallylike Obama's claim he had been to 47 states. It is inconsequential and it was an anti Trump media gone wild.

If he made the hurricane remak, which I can’t find and can’t finf the context for as a result, then I would guess it was an exaggeration of how big another storm was. Again, it simply doesn’t matter.

It may be the reason you can’t see the CNN and NYT lies is you’re too busy getting excited about unimportant crap.
