Tom, very valuable post on quasi bank run: these things never make the news here, but it shows to me the severity of the problem in Indonesia. I wonder how long your broker will have to wait and see until the rest of his money is being freed by his former bank... Ask him occasionally and inform us: Maybe the worst will be over once he gets his money in full. At least it would show that his bank is sufficiently liquid again.

Alas the good news is that CCI is building a bigger customer base in Ind., and when things turn better again, CCI will be a stronger contender than ever! There is always somebody winning...

What's your guess on this one: Is Citibank going primarily after the retail business and credit cards users or do they engage in commercial ending to local cos there also?

I've heard (some 2 months ago) from a banker contact/friend who is with the London branch of a Brazilian bank that the foreign banks in BRA (CCI, Bk of Boston) usually go more for the retail customers and leave the commercial lending mainly to he local banks.

Thanks for the story,
Thomas
