We have some good ones here too.
Here in So Cal, you can still get a great meal at the Vietnamese & Korean restaurants for 7 to 15 dollars.

If I eat Asian, with tip it runs $12 to $15 if I go for lunch specials. I think some specials are even lower, like $8.

Probably the best pho anywhere due to they boil meat and bones all day. One of the best tax payers in the city and the owners are nice. I believe they put one of their kids through Harvard selling pho. True American success story of how you come here as a LEGAL refugee, work hard to be admired in the community and then educate their kids yelp.com

Across the street is Chef Chu's who's son directed the award winning "Crazy Rich Asians" a success story from the prior generation. en.wikipedia.org

"Spicy beef stew" noodles is my go to dish there for about $13 takeout, $15 sit down.

Korean is about the same and you get side dishes and hot tea for about $15 but it usually runs $40 for two with tax and tip unless she is in a spend my money mood. :)

Just had some great burgers but without the BOGO coupon, it would not be a great value compared to Korean food for same tab... '

Food is excellent but not cheap...

Photos: facebook.com
2 1/3 lb specialty burgers
1 Counter Classic: mushrooms, cheese & onion rings: $15.25
1 Hickory: Bacon, cheese & onion rings: $15.25

Sides
Sweet potato fries $3.75
green salad: $3.25.

The burgers and sides with their special sauces were really good, but still seems expensive yet the place was packed... kids BDay parties and some liquid business lunches with people seated at the bar getting their mid day fix of alcohol...

Good staff but with $15.65 min wage in Mtn View plus tips, they are pretty well paid.
