I'm still baffled by what I'm hearing about NCs.

Everytime I hear about the rumored NC hardware spec. I can't stop myself from laughing. The initial price and specs were pretty incredible to begin with but it seems to get better everyday. Now it seems that in almost every respect these little beasts can kicks my G3/266 MT's butt. By April they should be able to incorporate cold fusion technology into the final product..hehe. Thus until I can get my hands on one of these machines I remain skeptically optimistic about all the features the NC is suppose to have. Until we know exactly what we have, its hard to speculate on the targeted market, market size, profit margin...etc.

Rumored Specs (according to MacNN and macosrumors)
macnn.com

275-300 MHz PowerPC 750 (implies 512K L2 cache)
DRAM/SDRAM (??MB)
17" monitor (the $10,000 LCD screen shown in concept shots??)
Built-in Ethernet (almost certain)
TV/DTV-Hookup
Infared mouse and keyboard (doubt it)
Fire-wire (doubt it)
2X DVD (doubt it)
Speech to text/Voice Control (doubt it)
real-time 3D capability (what?)
$700-$900

Okay so the NC doesn't have PCI and other expansions capabilities but if just half of these rumored features were true, it would be an incredible machine indeed. The only thing missing from this picture seems to a freaking HD?! Does that make any sense to anyone? Considering that harddrives are dirt cheap these days...it's hardly the place to skimp on. Local storage cost very little but makes everything 100 times easier...but apparently it'll be optional along with removable storage like Zip etc. It all sounds very strange to me.
