There just aren't a lot of possibilities. The problem is, the non-troll options are even worse.

Thought about your NT comment.

And that could be part of it. He tries to play on emotions. People on the spectrum often have alexthymia as one of the defects in the social processing mechanisms. I have trouble processing emotions. People on the spectrum are often accused of having no emotions. For me at least, that isn't true. I feel emotions. Often very strongly. I just often have no idea what they are. For me, meltdowns are an emotional storm that just overwhelms me.Not having a clue as to what those emotions are makes them even tougher to bear.

Anyway, mel, either consciously or not, makes direct appeal to emotions with little actual rational content. And that raises several flags in my experience. Probably the biggest after what I see as blatant attempts at manipulation, is that he is insincere. And those are second only to betrayal as something that places someone firmly on the "avoid at all costs" list.

The only real alternative to it being conscious is that he lives in a stew of emotions with little or no rational components. Which might be why he can't seem to come up with an argument that isn't based on fear, disgust, anger or other emotions.

This is why I don't like Trump. His lying is bad enough. But he either deliberately appeals to base emotions or he is driven by them. Or both. And when you ignore the emotional content, there just isn't much else.
