I know for sure that several forms of assistance are available because I know of a legal immigrant who receives some aid. She moved to the US almost 30 years ago, legally. She later fell ill and is unable to work. She is still in the process of gaining citizenship, but the process is long and drawn out.

And this is in Texas. Where it is difficult to qualify for any assistance at all unless you are a single minor with children. Once you hit 18, most of it becomes unavailable.

Except for SNAP. That is pretty easy to qualify for. Walmart more or less depends on it, so...

But if you are an adult and not disabled and don't have minor children, then you can only get it for 6 months out of every 3 years. So even the easiest of programs to qualify for is extremely restrictive.
