I understand your point. Sometimes the lowest cost at the moment carries the highest long term price tag. And subsidies, direct and indirect, can distort those costs. Coal is a great example. We have subsidized it by socializing the care of miners with black lung. The costs of sulfur in the coal was borne by others until relatively recently. The disposal of fly ash, ditto. The health costs alone of coal over the centuries has probably reached the trillions of dollars with little of it borne by the ones responsible. Not to mention the damage to infrastructure from the pollution.

A buddy of mine here just bought a Tesla Model 3. This last weekend, his software was updated, and he now has 'auto park'. He pulls up next to a parallel parking spot, and the car parks itself!

Elon Musk has said that he wants Teslas to be 'appreciating assets', and he's designed and built them to go a million miles, the same as big rig trucks. He envisions Tesla owners, once he has delivered on automatic driving, sending their Teslas out as Ubers to earn income for them while they aren't using them. That's why they have a hidden inside camera, to keep an eye on future customers.
