Syborg,

Where is the complex data stored...inside or outside Sybase DBMS?
The links and press release aren't high on detail.

The market needs to know that the IUS product is proven in the marketplace. Agree with Mark- a direct counter to Oracle's unproven approach.

Oracle has muddied the waters with their approach to ORDMS- especially the FUD last year about the 'dangers' of the datablade approach. The market needs to know that this product works well and is not bleeding edge.

Cheers,
matt.

Syborg,
I probably should have said "end-user" instead of "customer", because I was wanting to emphasize that normal users could also add data types easily, instead of having to develop the "specialty data store" required by Sybase. Note that you are emphasizing the available of VAR solutions, rather than support for the general customer.

The question comes down to the following:

1. How much SQL3 syntax is supported? What kind of objects can be created? Are Rowtypes supported? Sets? Multisets? Arrays? (the last is probably not yet supported by IFMX yet).

2. Can different vendor object extensions be supported in the same table? Can I use the spatial object from Vendor A and the picture support from Vendor B in the same table?

3. How many added index types are supported? R-trees?

I keep asking these questions because I simply cannot find the answers in the white papers that Sybase publishes.

The emphasis of my message was that IFMX was able to ship to customers the capability to extend their own capabilities, instead of relying only on pre-packaged solutions, as in Oracle. As for VAR solutions, there are far more available for Informix, with a very extensive list of people already shipping products.
