It's not that simple. Check out the AMTX (Amati) and WSTL (Westell) folders and www.adsl.com as starting points for some background on different implementations of ADSL. I think there's plenty of room for DSL, cable modems, wireless cable, ISDN and slower speed (56K) modems now and in the foreseeable future.

NO, this is fundamentally wrong (and pure DSL marketing B.S.).

Any network is a shared service. Cable and @Home have a huge bandwidth advantage over DSL and will provide superior performance with any number of users. @Home has an excellent summary of the issues at:
