I have owned MMM for well over a decade and it has been bumpy at times. It may be ok to buy a partial position. It never seems "cheap" and there "could be" more issues than meets the eye. If we get another broad market selloff like Nov - Dec, it could easily decline another 20-30 points. Hopefully, the issues are transitional but certainly could run deeper. Quite a few Bull vs Bear cases on SA.

I pretty much agree with everything Thehammer wrote. MMM is viewed as a dependable company paying a dependable dividend. It is rarely, if ever, cheap. I own a lot of MMM, so I am fine where I am. If I were looking to add, I would personally wait a bit and see how things look and feel. But don’t take my advice on when to get in—I am no good at timing. I think those who think MMM is going to drop to $150, though, are mistaken, barring a market meltdown.

FWIW, I did play a game with MMM over the past 9 (?) months, though, that paid for my very first RMD. More of a game than an investment, though: Buy low, sell high. :-))

I am going to differ from others here, and say this is not a good time to buy MMM. That quarterly report was shockingly bad, coming from a well-regarded blue-chip dividend champion. I have never owned the stock, but it's been near the top of my candidates list for a while. But now I'd want to see a substantially lower price, or a few quarters of better results, not cutting guidance, etc.
