NEWS:NeTpower Forms Strategic OEM Relationship with Box Hill For Creation of Rich Media Data Storage Solutions

NeTpower to OEM Box Hill's Fibre Channel RAID Storage Solutions

for Integration Into Windows NT Server Line

Relationship Produces High-Performance Server and Storage Solutions for Digital Media, 3D Design, Internet/Intranet and Information Management Markets

NEW YORK, Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- NeTpower, the originator of Windows NT system solutions, announced today that it has formed a strategic OEM relationship with Box Hill Systems Corp. (NYSE: BXH), a leading worldwide supplier of high-speed data storage solutions. Together, NeTpower and Box Hill will develop integrated system solutions for media asset servers, product data management (PDM) servers, web content and video streaming servers for the digital media, 3D design, Internet/intranet and information management markets.

NeTpower will OEM Box Hill's Fibre Channel RAID storage system, the Fibre Box(R), into its line of Intel-based Windows NT servers. The combination of NeTpower's servers and Box Hill's storage system sets a new price/performance standard for rich media storage for distance learning, corporate communications, online gaming and entertainment and many other applications. This new offering will provide lightning data transfer rates of up to 200MB/sec., advanced RAID performance using Box Hill's exclusive X/ORaid(TM) Module and high data integrity and availability across a network.

"NeTpower is known for combining technology leadership with complete solution offerings," said Bob Miller, NeTpower's CEO. "Sophisticated media storage solutions are critical for our customers. Box Hill is a leader in its field, paving the way in the development of Fibre Channel technology."

NETPOWER SERVERS PROVIDE HIGH-AVAILABILITY

The NeTpower family of SPARTA servers are high-availability systems for application, database or communication serving. SPARTA servers are used throughout the financial, entertainment and other industries for rich media content solutions. Built to order and simple to install, SPARTA servers provide maximum performance and reliability for business-critical applications at an affordable price.

"We are excited about our relationship with NeTpower," stated Box Hill CEO, Philip Black. "Box Hill's Fibre Box is the ideal Fibre Channel storage solution for the media market. It is the only 'pure Fibre to Fibre' Fibre Channel solution in the market and the only one taking advantage of the embedded X/OR RAID technology. The demands of the digital media industry are considerable and distinct and we feel that the combination of Box Hill's Fibre Box and NeTpower's line of Intel-based servers makes for the powerful combination the digital media industry has long been waiting for."

BOX HILL'S FIBRE BOX PROVIDES HIGH-SPEED STORAGE

Box Hill's Fibre Box is a high-performance, hot-swappable, dual Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL) RAID storage system. Data transfer rates reach up to 200 MB/sec. and capacities can scale up to 144 GB per enclosure (up to 2.25 TB per loop for enterprise storage) using 4 GB, 9 GB or 18 GB Fibre Channel disk drives. Additional features include Box Hill's exclusive, fault-tolerant X/ORaid Module, Array Explorer(TM) monitoring software, and transmission distances from 30 m to 10 km.

FIBRE CHANNEL: PREMIER STORAGE ARCHITECTURE FOR RICH MEDIA CONTENT

The Fibre Channel standard supports up to 126 peripheral device connections on the Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL) and can support those connections up to 10 kilometers with fiber optic cabling. Fibre Channel is capable of moving data between computer systems and storage systems at speeds of up to 100 MB/sec. (200 MB/sec. with dual loops). These speeds enable external storage systems to send and store data faster, to keep pace with a wide variety of complex computing applications such as transaction intensive databases, video and multimedia programming applications. In addition to longer cable lengths and greatly increased peripheral device connections, Fibre Channel introduces a new RAID paradigm: X/OR RAID Processors are now embedded in the Fibre Channel disk drives themselves, giving them RAID fault tolerance.
