I admire people who hunt and fish, raise their own animals and butcher them; less so those who get their meat from restaurants and grocery stores and don't make the connection between the protein on their plate and the animals who die to feed them...

To each his own. I eat meat. Like your friend, the challenge is to figure out what it means to live honorably, with respect for others... Eating less meat is probably a step in this direction...
