To All: PITIFUL,PITIFUL,PITIFUL- Buyback = Aprox. 7.4% Per Day!!!!!

-Gross Profit down 40.3% To 40.1%

-$3.2Billion in World wide debt, $2Billion in Stock Repurchase

Yuck!!

7.4% Per day was calculated as follows:
- 2 Billion repurchase in 4QTR
- oct-dec = aprox 64 Trading Days
- Avg. Stock price assumed at $100/ Share
- Avg. Daily Volume = 4,229,000 Shares/Day

2 Billion/ $100/ share= 20,000,000 shares Bought
20,000,000 shares/ 64 Trading Days =312,500 Shares per day
312,500 Shares Per Day/4,229,000 avg Shares/Day = 7.39%

Depending on how the shares were purchased (i.e. 1K Lots)this could really manipulate the stock price (Suckers Rally!)

THIS ROLLERCOASTER IS HEADED DOWN!!!

IBM , a $84 bln/yr company , cites potential Winter Olympics expenses ?

Atlanta's Olympics wasn't free and , if not worthwhile , the Winter Olympics would have been jetisoned . It's a 1Q98 advertising windfall worth the return !

Plus where is the normal reference to AS/400 & RS/6000 sales ? Then since when does a company announce a earnings shortfall a full quarter ahead ?

IBM's report sets up a "bear head" fake and , as a earlier post noted , a CFO blunder like Mr. Thoman's before he walked the plank to Xerox .

The stage is ready for you know who to set the record straight at a analysts meeting and then charm the share holders with "better than a expected 1Q" for his Fifth Aniversary at the annual meeting .

Don't sell on this faulty news , hold , you will see $125

Jim K.

I currently don't own any IBM shares. However, I am worried that the bears will use the less than spectacular earnings report as an excuse to drag the market down. Well, CPQ, TXN, and MSFT report tomorrow and I believe that at least CPQ will beat first call and let's hope that the earnings rally continue.
