Whenever we as kids asked the oligarchs of the house why we have no housepets, the answer invoked my dad's allergies. So we kids dropped it without any regrets we remember. If it worked for us, it'll work for the next generation. My allergies to small mammals are fierce. I'd never offer a lame reason like "we just don't like cats" to an inquisitive child. Not when a simple peremptory "No." will do just fine. If the unadorned negatory systematically fails, there is by definition a breach of discipline going on. Maybe I'm a hardass.
