I can’t help but feel that this Musk drive towards autonomous driving is primarily a VERY expensive ego trip. He has a money losing company on his hands. The 100’s of millions of dollars going into this pet project could be used to improve the manufacturing process, service availability, delivery process and anything else which will help him in selling more cars / reach consistent profitability. Once this is done, he can return to the autonomous driving issue which in my books won’t become reality for 5 or 10 years anyhow as governments are not risk takers and thus won’t give their seal of approval any time soon.
