As climate change continues, people from the equatorial regions will head north. I'm not saying that's what's happening right now, but it will only get worse as it does. What's happening now is more because we've concentrated more on nations far from our hemisphere than our southern neighbors. That needs to change.

Neither party will stand up to the corporate demand for cheap labor. There's the rub.

If you paid attention, you would have noticed that Trump doesn't have that much support in his own party for his immigration goals.

One might say he's not been skillful or hasn't made a coherent case for what he wants, but it's clear he's sincere about this issue from the campaign until now. I can't say the same about the leadership of the Rep party. And as for Democrats, the debates made clear they want even laxer rules.

It's wrong to say Trump has taken on this issue for political gain unless you think he shouldn't be listening to what Rep voters have been asking for for the last twenty years. In fact, isn't it silly to charge any politician for seeking political gain? Of course they do. They have to get elected for goodness sakes.
