Baoho, I dissagree that digital VCR will give DVD any significant competition. The most important reason is not picture quality or backward compatabitity but ease of use. Before CDs we all had to either flip vinyl albumns on to a turntable or fastforward a tape to our favorite song. What do I hate the most about renting movies? Having to rewind. What do I hate the most about replaying something I've taped off the airwaves? Rewinding to the part of the tape where the show begins. DVD will bring random access to video not just an increase in picture quality. For the PC it will be storage, games, information, etc.
