CDMA WLL *** WirelessNorth Releases Unlimited Minutes Plus PCS Plan

January 21, 1998

------------------------------------------------------------------------

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE) via Individual Inc. -- Jan. 20, 1998--Minnesota-based WirelessNorth has just released an unprecedented PCS service package in its Red River Valley markets called "Unlimited Minutes Plus". Subscribers to Unlimited Minutes Plus receive unlimited PCS calling for a monthly fee of $75.00, which includes voice mail, caller ID, call forwarding, call conferencing, call waiting, and numeric paging as free features. The new plan, launched January 10, 1998 at the Grand Opening of WirelessNorth's new Grand Forks, North Dakota retail store, was widely publicized and well received by customers attending the event.

"It's always been WirelessNorth's intent to provide a form of wireless telephone service otherwise known as Wireless Local Loop," states Dan Richards, Director of Sales & Marketing. "Developing this rate package is a first step in providing the consumer a true alternative to landline-based service, with the added benefit of having one hand-held communications device, one bill, and one vendor."

WirelessNorth provides both single-band and dual-band PCS phones equipped with all of the elements consumers use to stay in touch. The phone functions as a multi-use communications device competitively priced to paying individually for pager, cordless phone, cellular phone, caller ID and answering machine - with the added benefit of being truly mobile. In addition, WirelessNorth's PCS phones will accept short messaging, and can be integrated with Internet e-mail applications. WirelessNorth's dual-band phone is currently the only model on the market that allows for use as a cellular phone with a separate number and service plan.

"Our Unlimited Minutes Plus plan makes sense for both individual consumers and business professionals. WirelessNorth will continue to provide rates that are both constructed for Wireless Local Loop and more traditional wireless packages," Richards stated. "Wireless Local Loop is more of a city-wide concept, although we provide the ability to make calls outside of our Home Service Area via the roaming agreements we have established with other wireless carriers. We've taken the zoned billing approach, with the zone being the city. As Wireless Local Loop subscribers travel outside the city, they will pay measured rates on cellular networks and other CDMA PCS networks. "

WirelessNorth is committed to providing communications flexibility -- offering customers plans tailored to how and where they intend to use their wireless device, while providing high-quality, private, 100% digital CDMA PCS connections and competitive pricing.

WirelessNorth is a PCS management company owned by several independent rural telephone and utility companies in the region. Through the FCC auction process, WirelessNorth's owners secured PCS licenses to offer service in Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Wisconsin and Iowa.
