Following from my AWRE notes may explain few of ur questions. scrapps, Norman and other may be able to shed more lite (pun intended).

October 7, 1997: This week at Networld+Interop '97, Aware, Inc. will introduce the X200 DMT-based ADSL Access Router. Fifty times faster than ISDN-based routers, the X200 is the industry's first commercially available ADSL access router for customer premise equipment to incorporate DMT modulation.

November 4, 97: Aware has demonstrated the first splitterless version of its DMT (discrete multitone) technology suitable for PC modem applications. Delivering downstream speeds of up to 1.5 Mbps over CSA loops without the need for POTS splitters at the customer premises, Aware's DSL Lite technology.

One of the model for AWRE's future revenues:
Modem and line cards 55-65% gross margins 40%
software licensing 25-35% 100%
chipset royalties 5-10%

Hope that helps.
