Mephisto, I am a news junkie when something interesting is happening, so I just sat through a LOT of national news special reports, and a forty-five minute interview of Clinton talking to Jim Lehrer of PBS. These new revelations mark the first time serious network time has been taken up with discussion of IMPEACHMENT of Bill Clinton, for serious felonies. That word was mentioned on every network, and by a couple of Congressional leaders. I believe Hillary has always known about the other women, certainly from the time during the first presidential campaign when the revelations from his long-time mistress Gennifer Flowers came out. That is mostly what the movie 'Primary Colors' is about. It is very easy for a lot of other women to laugh at her and call her stupid for staying with him, but she's First Lady and we're not!! Anyway, she is very politically motivated, and possibly she throws herself into her political agenda to distract herself. Do you remember how weird Travolta's hair was in the trailer for 'Primary Colors', and how he was talking with a Southern accent, and when that woman slapped him across his face? That was supposed to be Bill and Hillary!!! What I could figure out for sure is that the young woman signed an affidavit that was presented last Saturday at Billy's deposition in the Paula Jones case, stating she had not had an affair with him. Clinton's attorney's strategy for presenting the affidavit was to plead that Clinton should not have to testify about the woman, but on Saturday the judge at the deposition ruled he DID have to testify, and so he then stated under oath that he had not had an affair. This really mucked up things for Billy. Now, after her taped discussions have been forwarded to Kenneth Starr, the Whitewater investigator, she will plead her fifth amendment rights against self-incrimination when she next testifies tomorrow, and is no longer standing by her affidavit. Her attorney was interviewed on television, and stated that if this is the way Bill Clinton treats women he is a misogynist. I thought that was a VERY curious thing for her attorney to state, and my guess is that it is a signal that she is not going to protect the President much longer, but that is just my opinion. CBS seemed to know more about the tapes than the other networks. One interesting thing is that Attorney General Janet Reno agreed last week to a wiretap of the other staffer the young woman had confided in, based on evidence in the tapes she had already taped off telephone calls the two women had. So the woman who came forward was wired, and the two of them talked in a Washington bar last week surrounded by FBI agents, although obviously the young woman was not aware of what was happening. Most of the tapes apparently show a frightened young woman pleading with the older woman to help her lie and cover this affair up. I have not yet figured out exactly what the older woman, Linda Tripp, had to do with all of it, but she is a Washington staff person. In the tapes, the young woman says Billy is IN DENIAL about the Paula Jones affair. This is pretty much what I got from the Lehrer interview with him as well. Billy said he cannot really say everything is "hunky dory" right now, but he owes the American people his full attention, and he is just going to put this stuff "into a little box" and go on with his job. He again denied having the affair, but in very lawyerly terms, and promised to help get to the bottom of all this. Of course, he and Hillary both alleged today that these were absolutely false charges and that their political enemies were just out to get them. That one is getting a little old, I think!!! Oh, and speaking of Clinton's family, according to the latest Newsweek, one of the Arkansas state police or whatever they are who have been accused of procuring women for him in the past, has testified that when Billy was still living in the governor's mansion in Little Rock, but just a few days before his inauguration as President, he took the same woman to see Billy on four different occasions very early in the morning. One time, he says Billy asked him to guard the room they were in and watch for Chelsea and make sure she didn't discover them--Chelsea was ill and I guess might have gotten up to go to the bathroom or something. So, keeping you posted, Mephisto. All in all, a very strange story.
