JGoren,

Qualcomm is a name that takes a while to get used to. The old stadium name, "San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium", was frequently abbreviated as "The Murph". Perhaps when sportcasters call Qualcomm Stadium "The Big Q" or simply "The Q" or something like that, it will get more respect.

Jack Murphy was a sports writer. Perhaps it is out of loyalty to one of their own.

JGoren, In an incredible display of diplomacy and civility, Surfer Mike will respond to a Cowboy, to wit: when Candlestick became 3Com, the local press went ape-s*it. Whatever flack the Q is taking for the old Jack Murphy (now ain't that a sexy handle!) becoming Qualcomm Stadium can't even begin to compare. Yes, my beloved 49'ers are home watching the tube this weekend, but even Ramsey will come around when the Q hustles a couple zillion phones and a year from now Qualcomm Stadium will be as honored as the Boston Garden. Well . . . . .
On a more serious note, I've never been more proud of our boys. The Q took their cue (amazing alliteration, Mike!) from "Intel Inside". These gawldarned engineers figured out that branding is the name of the tech game and they're spending the bucks to do it. You think the tassled loafer crowd knows CDMA from YMCA? Not a prayer. But when it's way cool, they'll buy it and then we're gonna get a 3rd order effect. Go*a,med4&^%# Motorola nailed the piece of s*it StarTac and everybody with braces (them be suspenders chuckiej) just had to have one. Imagine what they'll do with a phone that works! (and allows them to be paged, check e-mail, and do Anita[TM] like things. Hang in there dudes--+6 or whatever is nice but this play has got a lot more run in it.. Surfer Mike says bet the Hobie, big set comin' in. Maybe for '98 not much above 75 cause of all the SEA crap which ain't going away and which won't be solved with a Mexico quick fix--but '99, '00? See you at Pebble and we'll all give not a good d*mn about the green fees. qpooch, $5 a side, $5 on the 18, automatic two down press? Ripple, me don't need no stinking Ripple. (heh, heh, heh). I think a really great marketing move for QCOM would be to rename the San Diego Chargers to San Diego Qualcommer for the next 50 years, and dilute a few million shares to get some serious players for that team.
