Good luck!

I'm not much of a fan of oil company investing, probably because 80% of the people in my state want them to go BK and will do and vote for anything that helps that happen. I believe several other states are the same...

I inherited a small position of XOM about 11 years ago and sold it in the $80s then added some of my funds to the total to buy $10K of SPY at just under $88 on 10/10/08. I thought it was a good time to "put away $10K into the S&P 500 that I was recommending in free articles when the markets were down huge to see how $10K would do going forward."

I sold all the reinvested dividends a couple of years back when the position was up about 4X and I was worried the new Trump tax plan would force me to use FIFO... and the position is still up about 3.3X today... while I think XOM pretty much paid a dividend and went down a bit.. and many states and countries are talking about outlawing ICE (gasoline powered) vehicles....

Hard to believe that XOM is actually down since then!

In fairness, here is XOM vs SPY showing reinvested dividends since I made the switch...

Maybe that is a buy signal for XOM as I've not bragged about this "family matter" and some liked these dividend payers...
