China said June 2017 the joint declaration with Britain over Hong Kong, on out how the city would be ruled after returned to China, no longer had any practical significance. The Joint Declaration laid out basic rights and freedoms under the “two systems” formula for 50 years. Only 20 years into the agreement, the CCP government has broken its promises. Flagrantly demonstrating they never play by the rules. With the implementation of the Greater Bay Area Plan, censorship in Hong Kong and Macau will be tightened and freedom will be under greater pressure or oppression. With the spread of socialism and communism, both Hong Kong and Macau will see darker days ahead. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I believe most of the world knew at the time China would violate the agreement. Certainly many Chinese peoples did. Their was a great exodus of Chinese people to other countries. Richmond BC is the largest settlement of Chinese people on earth outside of China itself as a result of China taking over Hong Kong. So much so that even the signage in the area is now predominately Chinese. I am not being racist in that comment. Other than a minor number or percentage of people driving a criminal element. The majority of those who immigrated have and still are making a significant positive contribution to the country. They are industrious hard, working and an exemplary in business ventures when in an environment of free enterprise. Socialism reduces the right of wealth accumulation. Communism denies it for the common person. Both philosophies curb curb efficiency and job creation. Government control and appointed managers with no personal investment, is detrimental to fair and thriving competition in the market place. And thereby enhanced lifestyle of the majority. The reason why these philosophies are always Dictated not Elected
