This is my prediction for the cross-licensing rumor:

Apple will announce a real database application, with a sophisticated scripting language and SQL support, to be made available both for Rhapsody and the old Mac OS (8.1 and its predecessors). There is no shortage of people complaining about lack of Microsoft Access availability for the Mac, and Apple must be aware of that. Perhaps even a Microsoft Mac Access application will be announced.

It's consistent with the rumored sale of FM Pro to Oracle. Apple may very well be hedging its bet by letting Oracle take over the development of FM Pro but at the same time taking the risk of being assimilated by the Microsoft Borg by welcoming Access to the Mac platform. Between the two database applications Apple should be able to market the promise of good, robust database support within 12-18 months.
